Team statement: |
The
Hospital for Special Care Cruisers is a sports team whose members are children,
challenged by a physical disability. The team competes in
athletic competitions locally, regionally, and nationally in
wheelchair track, field, and swimming.
The program
operates
year-round with
training sessions held weekly to prepare the athletes for competition.
The program welcomes athletes from 5 years of age through the 20's.
We specialize in developing physical skills and strength, emotional
skills, increasing self-esteem, and, enjoyment in doing the best that
each athlete can in sport.
The Cruisers were
founded at the Newington Children's Hospital, Newington, CT on
February 23, 1984. The Program is now sponsored by the Hospital
for Special Care and is proud to have helped over 150
athletes reach their potential in disabled sports. |
